Infinity

I am gliding and turning, free falling

And I'm spinning and dancing.

I hear singing and laughter, you call me, but,

No movement from your lips.

Now I'm sinking, pressure from above me,

Face like cold steel pressed into yours.

Still and silent, heavy but remaining light.

Head swirling in infinity and relaxed sensuality

That surrounds me.

Creeping and sliding, then creeping through vast

Canyons with mountains and rivers and trees.

Then breathing, inhaling and holding then blowing

With buzzing and whirring and sensation too

Bright, tingling and beating all through the

Night.

Now I'm singing and dancing and laughing and

Flying, you watch me and smile.

Do you feel me above you, astride the world?

I'm clutching a tulip, the spectrum unfurls...

I'm a train gathering speed along the tracks,

Abutterfly emerging, we can never look back.

The leaves are so green and the sky is so blue.

I look in the mirror. My reflection is you, who is

Skipping and jumping and rolling and joking,

Flinging out seeds that grow into daisy chains

To wear around our necks.

Then

You're shouting and screaming

Victorious and beautiful, eyes shining

With a glossy mane. Then you are

Galloping away, over hills and through

Streams, you run with the wind and long

To be free.

How we're slowing and stopping,

Lading in corn fields with poppies and whispers

And rabbits that sing,

We have gone beyond our days and come back to out nights

Where our parachutes open and

We close our eyes.

Now we're sleeping and warm

And things aren't what they seem

And

We wait for the morning, but until then

Dream.

About this poem

Written in 1992, the year I turned 18, 'Infinity' is meant to be read quickly, with the rhythm of a train on track.  It's about being with my First Love.

We were both virgins when we met, which was perfect, and we were lucky to have an amazing sex life. This poem is (obviously) about one particular night he and I spent together way back when...

It must have been a great night!

I know we had many over our years together.
